WORKING IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

WORKING IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

So, I’ve been terribly busy lately with work. 2 jobs, to be exact. One of them with a nonprofit called the Organization for Refugee and Immigrant Services (ORIS) and one as a waitress, in typical, post-recession millenial style.

ORIS has been an interesting place lately – more so than usual. I’ve discovered more and more what a unique place Manchester, New Hampshire truly is. The urban renewal…

SO, I WAS IN TURKEY AND EGYPT

SO, I WAS IN TURKEY AND EGYPT

So, I’ve just arrived home from one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. I went to Turkey and Cairo for 5 days each. And it wasn’t enough! The trip had everything I could have wanted: awkward bilingual conversations, monuments, famous cafés, potentially beautiful photographs that were ruined by my awkward presence, travel flings with moustachioed men, local beverages, and hostel friends.…

I LOVE NEW ENGLAND

I LOVE NEW ENGLAND

1709_fit588x588

Since coming to the UK, regionalism has become more apparent to me than ever before. Maybe because of the upcoming Scottish independence referendum, or maybe because I’ve realized that the only English people I really like seem to be from the North. It has caused me to reflect on the region that I identify with, and eagerly correct people who think I’m from some McDonalds-eating-cowboy version…

WEE UPDATES

WEE UPDATES

A few wee updates on my life and career (or lack thereof).

I’ve updated my resume with my volunteering activities with Edinburgh & Lothians Regional Equality Council. I’ve also added a link in Publications to the Innovative Learning Week blog, which I’ve been writing for throughout the event.

I’m currently struggling to get my research project together for the summer. I’m really intimidated,…

I’M ALIVE

So.

I’ve been holidaying a little bit too hard, evidently. It’s been far, far too long. I’m going to write a proper post this weekend, but right now I’m pretty focused on eating and wearing the same sweatshirt for 48+ hours.

I actually think having this…

GEEKY FILM MARATHON

Hello friends. I haven’t been posting much lately, mainly because I’ve been trying to keep up with schoolwork and having a social life in a nation of high-functioning alcoholics. I have, however, watched some great movies lately, several of which examine…

A BELATED NOTE FOR TRAYVON MARTIN

“The look that the native turns on the settler’s town is a look of lust, a look of envy; it expresses his dreams of possession–all manner of possession: to sit at the settler’s table, to sleep in the settler’s bed, with his wife if possible. The colonized…
